Girls Swim and Dive Team wins state championship for first time

The Brookfield East Girls’ Swim and Dive Team competed and won first place overall. On Nov. 16, the girls that competed during the meet were Kamryn Dembny (10), Callie Gregg (10), Lexi Penney (12), Lucy Thomas (9), Reese Tiltmann (9), Reilly Tiltmann (11), and Abby Wanezek (10).

According to the WIAA Website, the team scored a total of 243, beating the other schools and earning the first place trophy. The girls competed in the 200 Yard Medley  Relay, the 100 Yard Breaststroke, the 1 Meter Dive and many more.

After a long day of swimming and diving, the team scored the highest points, placing first in Division 1. Penney, a diver during the meet, finished in fourth place at the State diving Meet. 

“When we actually won, it was crazy,” Penny said. “It was the first state championship I was a part of.”

Not only was the team excited, but their fans were also supporting and celebrating the team’s victory. Jenna Wilson (11), a teammate and fan, was cheering her team on towards their victory.

“It was super cool watching the team improve and do amazing at State,” said Wilson.

With their victory, the team excitedly brought home the State trophy and celebrated with their fans back home.
