The mysticism of Pandora’s box, the hardships of Sisyphus, and the device of the Trojan horse are all part of the stories that have been told at Classics Night.
Classics Night is an event where students from Brookfield East and other schools gather to share stories and classic tales.
The event was started by Lucas Callies (11), a junior and Latin student at Brookfield East. Callies is the vice president of the WJCL. This organization was made to promote Latin culture, language, and literature among high school students, and his involvement was partly why he created this event. “As the vice president of the WJCL, I love Latin and wanted to spread that love to other students as well.” His promotion and passion for the Latin language drove him to create this event.
Many students have enjoyed Rick Riordan’s books, and for good reason. Stories of myth can be as intriguing as they are entertaining.
The stories themselves aren’t the only fun part. Callies shares that part of the fun is “interacting with other students from different schools.” It is a fun experience and an opportunity to join a community and make new friends.
Attending this event may seem daunting if you know nothing about Latin Classics or myths in general. However, Callies encourages all students to attend and have fun. “Classics Nights are open to everyone and anyone. Even if you aren’t a Latin student, you should come.” Those particularly interested in ancient history, myth, or Latin should consider coming.
