Have you ever experienced the delight of a Spartan Union drink? Many students and teachers are frequent customers and purchase a variety of items from the ever-changing menu. However, the presence of a fully running cafe within a school is certainly a relatively new utility, making the Spartan Union a common topic of conversation on its benefits and drawbacks. Does working in the Spartan Union provide any benefits? When you get your frozen hot chocolate delivered straight to your classroom, is it a convenience, or a mere distraction?
Peter Kearny(11), a current Spartan Union Barista says that “working at the Union really benefits me, as it helps to teach students about working a job, marketing, and running a business.” Peter continued that the Union would prepare him for his eventual job in life, expressing “I feel like I have a head start on how to run my own business because of the union.”
On the other hand, Mr. Cordell says that the Spartan Union can be a distraction. However, he also acknowledges its benefits. “It really hasn’t been a problem this year. I think that the Union is a great thing for kids to learn about”.
Mrs. Tlemsani, an Americano enthusiast, says, “It should be up to the teacher to decide whether they allow deliveries and visits to the Union. It’s an interesting offering, but I would prefer if students don’t order drinks during a test.”
What’s your opinion on the Union? Do you think that students should be allowed to grab a drink at their convenience? Or should there be more restrictions.
