Thinking about traveling?
Whether you are planning on going to see family, or travel to the beautiful coasts of Florida for this year’s holidays, it is important to plan accordingly. Many people are looking forward to seeing family and friends for a good Thanksgiving feast or for a splendid gift unwrapping session with the cousins. People, in the year 2023, have been eager to see family and friends rather than spending the holidays alone. According to Newsroom, an estimated 55.4 million people were recorded to have traveled for the Thanksgiving season compared to 2022’s and 2021’s numbers of 54 and 56 million respectively. The Christmas travel season is also predicted to see a significant increase compared to 2022. According to Nerdwallet, about 50% of Americans are spending money on travel this upcoming Christmas compared to 44% in 2022. So the main question is then, how are people getting to their destinations?
Car or Air Travel?
2023 had an increase of air travel compared to 2022 during the Thanksgiving season, and to be more specific about 13% more. But compared to air travel, traveling by car seems to be the option for most.
People are estimated to travel by car instead of traveling by air because of one big reason, gas prices! The gas prices have decreased at a rate of 5.28% since 2022. This drop in prices has pushed people to save money by traveling by car instead of by plane. In total, ticket prices estimated between the holiday seasons are merely a difference of about $100. To demonstrate this point, Budget Travel states that Thanksgiving air ticket prices were around $300 compared to Christmas air tickets at about $400. This is possibly why so many people will be traveling by car considering some may not be going too far. Why would people want to spend money on an airline ticket when you can possibly be spending way less for gas?
It depends…
For many it will depend on how far away your destination is, or if it’s even possible to get to where you want to get driving. Either way it is a great season to travel and spend the holidays with family.
